Where to go for food & drink when you stay at The Barn KT9

Above L-R, Olive in the process of being barred from The Swan, The Star & The Hare and Hounds.

There's plenty of great options a short walk or ride away from The Barn if you're staying the night, here are some of our favourites. You can ride either entirely or nearly entirely off-road to all of these places. Let us know if you need a route!

5-10 minute walk

Pub wise, The Shy Horse & The Star are both a short walk away in the village of Malden Rushett. They can get quite busy, particularly in summer holidays with families on the way home from Chessington World of Adventures. If you pop in 5ish for a kids meal and a beer or two, you won't normally need to book, but for peak times it's definitely worth making a reservation. They both have big gardens, and The Star has a nice new play area for kids too. They are both pretty reliable for food and drink, not likely to win any Michelin Stars any time soon but you'll leave happy and full from both.

20-30 minute walk / 5-10 minute cycle

A slightly longer walk across the Common gets you to Epsom. First up you'll be greeted with The Cricketers, a nice pub on the green with similar food to the two in Malden Rushett. Slightly further up Stamford Green Road you'll find the Jolly Coopers, with it's own brewery out the back and a slightly more refined food menu too. The Rising Sun in town is great too. Epsom Social was excellent 6 months ago, but most of the best vendors have sadly now left, so double check who is there before you go.

1hr walk / 10-15 minute cycle

If you're in the market for something a bit more fancy, The Victoria in Oxshott is the place to go. Whilst a fair bit more expensive than the other options, you're getting some serious food here, with chefs from some of the best restaurants in the world, including The Fat Duck, now in charge of the kitchen.

1.5hr walk / 20 minute cycle

The Swan in Claygate is another of our favourites. Jose Pizarro heads up the kitchen, and the outside area in the summer is perfect for a cold pint of Estrella in the sunshine. The Hare and Hounds and The Foley are worth a visit for more traditional pub fayre too.

1 .5hr walk / 15 minute cycle

The Old Plough in Stoke D'Abernon is our final local recommendation, a consistently excellent pub experience with a big menu, loads of covers, loads of space outside, loads of staff and everything being mega reliable.

If you head further still, Leatherhead, Esher, Cobham, Surbiton and Kingston have plenty more to offer too.

If you fancy staying put, there's plenty of good options on Deliveroo too. We particularly like Dastaan (Indian), Makiyaki (Japanese), Cappadocia (Turkish) and Giggling Squid (Thai). Pizza fans, tap up Cock a Doodle Dough via their own app for by far the best pizza in the area (their rotisserie chicken is great too).

Map below shows where all the above can be found!
